The Hobbs Police Department currently has two designated traffic officers. Both of the officers are certified traffic crash re-constructionists. These officers investigate all fatal traffic crashes and crashes with serious injuries in conjunction with their normal patrol activities.

Officers in the traffic unit are equipped with police motorcycles and standard police vehicles.  Officers in the Traffic Unit target areas within the city in which elevated numbers of traffic crashes have occurred.  This is done to reduce the number of traffic crashes and to increase voluntary compliance with traffic laws by motorists.
